Description: The first 2 miles of this trail are well marked and maintained. The remainder of the trail is not maintained and hard to find. However, this trail is a favorite for those who like bushwacking and exploring little used areas. This trail is not recommended for horse travel due to the condition of the trail.
Directions: From Carbondale travel east on Hwy 82 to Basalt. Turn left at the stoplight and follow the Fryingpan River Road from Basalt, 28 miles to the Norrie Colony. Turn right on road #504 and drive past the houses and continue up the switchbacks. The road will fork approximately 3 miles from Norrie. Turn left at the fork. Continue 1 mile and take the right fork up to Chapman Gulch. The trailhead is at the diversion tunnel site.
